The association currently has four divisions - Academic, School, Clinical, and Division of Women's Interests which provide special interest programs throughout the year. These programs are open to the general membership of WCPA. The WCPA makes a special effort to be of service to the Westchester community of consumers of psychological services. Contact with various community groups and involvement in community problems is an ongoing endeavor of the Association. Advice on ethical issues is provided to guide the membership, colleagues, and consumers. The Association publishes a newsletter, The Westchester Psychologist, as a medium of communication among its members. The WCPA maintains a Referral Service for consumers seeking private psychological services. It also maintains a Speakers Bureau which provides speakers on topics of interest in the field of psychology to consumer and professional groups. Throughout the academic year professional and social meetings are held which have appeal to the general membership. At the Annual Meeting, a program of professional interest on some topical issue is provided and a Distinguished Service Award may be presented to a member who has made an outstanding contribution to the field of psychology. The Westchester Center for Psychological Education (WCPE), the Education Committee and Board of Accreditation of the WCPA, is approved by the American Psychological Association as a sponsor of Continuing Education in Psychology. Throughout the year, the WCPE sponsors credit courses, workshops and lectures on topics of interest in the field of psychology to both members of WCPA as well as non-members. Such continuing educational experiences help to keep the membership abreast of advances in psychological theory and technique. |
