Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders: An Overview

Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) are the number one complication of childbirth. PMADs affect 1 in 5-7 women and 1 in 10 men. The presenter, Birdie Gunyon Meyer, RN, MA, PMH-C will discuss the many faces of PMADs - Depression, Anxiety, Panic, OCD, PTSD, Bipolar, and Psychosis. The session will outline the risk factors, signs and symptoms, treatment options, and the resources available.

Learning Objectives: 1.  Assess pregnancy and postpartum risk factors; 2. Select evidence-based Screening tools and best practices for administering and interpreting scores and making referrals;   3.  Discuss local, regional, and national resources for those with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders

Birdie Gunyon Meyer is an RN with a Master’s Degree in Psychology and Counseling.  She was the Founder of the Perinatal Mood Disorders Program at Indiana University Health in Indianapolis, Indiana.  She is Certified in Perinatal Mental Health, and is an internationally known expert and speaker.
