The Middle 8: How Students Can Be Supported Beyond the Classroom
Providing students with effective and efficient study skills is essential for succeeding as a modern student. Healthy routines, in particular, is a key determinant of success, but how can we ensure these structures exist when students are not in school? This presentation will be geared to an audience of therapists, touching upon some of the gaps so we can be mindful of ways to support students in our respective professions. How can we help students understand the importance of performance and accountability to maximize opportunity while decreasing stress? Also, in what ways can we help neurodivergent students thrive? Using research and over a decade focused on effective executive functioning skills, Dr. Tony Di Giacomo will present ways to frame and support students particularly during the Essential Eight – the time when students are off-campus (after school and before sleep). We will discuss the gaps that exist between neuropsych evaluations, in school interventions, and therapy.
