The talk will address IFS’ approach to working with defensive strategies and with the underlying vulnerabilities or wounds. Participants will engage in a short experiential exercise as a means of exploring therapist “parts”. Suzanne Burger is a licensed clinical psychologist, with over thirty-five years of clinical experience working with adults, adolescents, and children. Her specialties include developmental and complex trauma, couples, and parenting challenges. In addition to being a Certified IFS therapist, Suzanne is part of the training team in the IFIO (IFS’ couples therapy) training program. She is also a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) and assists/supervises students learning that model. As the author of a self-help book for couples, Steering Your Marriage, and as a certified in the Gottman Method and trained in the EFT model, Suzanne currently supervises clinicians in the couples program at the Westchester Center for the Study of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy.
