REGISTER HEREThis presentation aims to provide information to help practitioners implement threat assessment procedures in the school setting, particularly those outlined by the NASP School Safety and Crisis Response Committee (2014). Types of threats will be described along with procedures for conducting an individualized threat assessment. Components of the Virginia Model for Student Threat Assessment, along with other threat assessment guidelines, will be introduced. Finally, options for intervention will be presented.
Learning Objectives.
1.Participants will identify and differentiate between various types of threats in school settings and understand procedures for individualized threat assessments
2. Participants will be able to describe threat assessment models and guidelines used to guide decision-making, including how to apply the components of the Virginia Model for Student Threat Assessment.
3. Participants will be able to describe a range of intervention strategies to address identified threats and maintain a safe educational environment.
Presenter's biography: Dr. Jennifer T. Mascolo Jennifer T. Mascolo, PsyD, NCSP, is an adjunct professor and Training Coordinator at St. John’s University in NY and is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist and a Licensed Psychologist in New York and New Jersey. Since 2002, Dr. Mascolo has maintained a private practice and has taught assessment and consultation at the graduate level at St. John’s University, Fordham University, and has most recently served as a full-time lecturer and fieldwork coordinator at Teacher's College, Columbia University. She also serves as a Specific Learning Disability (SLD) consultant and a professional development consultant and trainer for organizations nationally and internationally. Dr. Mascolo has coauthored the first and second editions of the Achievement Test Desk Reference, Essentials of the WJ III Tests of Cognitive Abilities as well as several book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles focused on assessing, diagnosing, and intervening with specific learning disabilities and is primary editor of the Essentials of Planning, Selecting, and Tailoring Interventions for Unique Learners and secondary author of the Intervention Planning Library: Finding Interventions and Resources for Students and Teachers (IL:FIRST).
